Aya Institute for Women, Politics and Media is a think- and action- tank focused on research, training and advisory services towards gender equality.
Aya engages both non-profit and for-profit services in a variety of fields intersecting with gender.
Our vision is to raise the awareness of citizens, businesses, media, governments and other relevant stakeholders on gender equality.
We wish to contribute to building gender competent/aware? institutions in both the public and private sector.
Our mission is to be a pan African knowledge Hub with global recognition for gender research, training and advisory services.
Our goal is therefore to conduct cutting-edge research, provide training and bring perspectives that promote the understanding of gender dynamics, strengthen the principle of gender equality and transform society.
When it comes to our values, we conduct our business in a fair, transparent, professional and resourceful manner.
Fern is English for Aya. Aya is also an ‘Adinkra’ which symbolises endurance and resourcefulness. The fern is a hardy plant that can grow in difficult places (Willis, The Adinkra Dictionary). For us, Aya (Fern) represents the story that gender advocacy has endured many adversities and outlasted much difficulty therefore there is an inexhaustible hope to achieve the objectives of a gender equal society.
